Couples Weekend Away in Jervis Bay

April 17, 2019

Here we go! My very first travel blog. Welcome, I am so excited!

My boyfriend (Kieran) and I have loved to travel ever since we started dating. I have decided to share our favourite travel places, where we stay, travel tips and of course, favourite places to eat when we're away! I'm starting this ongoing 'Travel' section of my website with our most recent trip to Jervis Bay. A cute little weekend away to celebrate our 4th year Anniversary. We were both really looking forward to a break from the busy hustle of Sydney, to spend time relaxing and enjoying each others company! Have a read of what we got up to...

ACCOMODATION

We love staying in Air BnB's when we travel around Australia. We have found them to be cheaper in most cases and we love getting to experience the town/city as a local. It is also a bonus to have access to kitchen facilities.

We booked the cutest beachside Air BnB for our stay in Jervis Bay and it was perfect for us. It was in the suburb called 'Vincentia'. Just past Huskisson and only a 10 minute drive to the beautiful Hyams Beach. I have linked the Beach Shack below.

We really enjoyed our stay at the beach shack. The place was so spacious for the 2 of us and had been beautifully renovated. We spent our time here relaxing in the lounge area and on the outdoor deck, as well as cooking dinner in the kitchen. After our morning beach strolls, we ate breakfast in our cute and cosy kitchen and then made coffees and sat on the lounge with the doors open to the deck - it was bliss!

The beach shack is situated on a main road but there was no noise disruption, the area is very quiet and peaceful. The beach is also just across the road!

THINGS TO DO

Unfortunately the weekend that we visited Jervis Bay it was raining! But we still enjoyed our time away, this is what we go up to:

  • We took an early morning walk along the beach. If you stay at this particular Air BnB or one near, the beach is just across the road. Both mornings we got up and went for a 20 minute walk long the beach, a nice start to our days.

  • Visit Hyams Beach! The beach with some of the whitest sand in the world. Definitely take your swimmers if the weather is warm. But if not, just take a stroll along the white sand beach and take in the amazing scenery.

  • Go for a walk around Huskisson town. Check out the cafes, have a coffee and then take a browse at a few homewares shops!

  • Stop off at Two Figs Winery on your way home! This was about a 35 minute drive from our Air BnB. We have visited this Winery before and we love it. The vineyard is located 12km from Berry and situated on top of one of Mount Coolangatta's foothills with views of the Shoalhaven River. Stay for a tasting, pick yourself up some wine or even just take a look at the view.

FOOD

As we were staying in such a well equipped Air BnB we chose to eat breakfast in both mornings and cook dinner together one of the nights.

We found a small Thai restaurant that we got take away from on the first night of our stay. It was called Nana on the Bay Thai Restaurant (link below) and the food was amazing. It was really fresh, authentic Thai food that made the perfect Anniversary dinner, paired with a glass of Rose in our cute little beach shack lounge room!

For dinner the next night we made up a Mexican feast! There was a Coles close by to our beach shack, only a 5 minute drive. This was such a nice idea, we both still live at home so this was a fun night as it felt like we were living out of home together!

TRAVEL TIP

If you are like me and you are a fussy eater, make sure you pack some snacks and some essential food items that you can eat on the go or cook if you have access to a kitchen. As I said previously, we ate breakfast in our Air BnB both mornings. I packed yogurt, granola, honey & blueberries with us in case I couldn't get what I wanted at the local shop!

If your looking for a peaceful weekend away - this area is definitely a top pick of mine! The scenery of both ocean and bushland are beautiful. I also highly recommend the Beach Shack, I have noticed that it gets booked out pretty quickly. If you are interested in taking a trip to this beautiful part of NSW, get in quick or book in advance!

I hope you have enjoyed reading my very first Travel blog just as much as I enjoyed writing it!
